Sophist

A sequel of sorts to the Theaetetus. The Eleatic Stranger leads the search for a definition of the sophist — that elusive type who looks like a philosopher and isn't. The hunt forces a confrontation with the oldest problem in Greek metaphysics: how can we speak of what is not? Plato's answer, which reframes being, sameness, difference, motion, and rest as interwoven Forms, is one of his most original contributions.
