Vipul Kumar (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the Kafka reading application (“App”) available on Android, iOS, and the web. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address and password (for email-based sign-up)
- Google account information (name, email, profile picture) if you sign in with Google
- You may also use the App without creating an account (anonymous usage)
Reading Activity
To provide core reading features, we collect:
- Reading progress (current chapter, position in chapter, scroll offset)
- Highlights and notes you create, including selected text, notes, and color preferences
- Library and bookshelves you organize
- Reading goals and daily reading statistics (reading time, session count)
Device Information
- Device identifier for push notification delivery
- Platform (Android/iOS) and app version
- Firebase Cloud Messaging token for notifications
Analytics Data
We collect anonymized usage data to improve the App, including:
- Screen views and navigation patterns
- Feature usage events
- Crash reports and performance data
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect advertising identifiers (Google Advertising ID is explicitly removed)
- We do not collect precise location data
- We do not collect contacts, call logs, or SMS data
How We Use Your Information
- Sync your reading progress across devices
- Store your highlights, notes, and library so they are accessible on all your devices
- Send push notifications about your reading goals or important updates
- Improve the App through anonymized analytics and crash reporting
- Provide customer support and respond to feedback

- Your data is stored on Supabase servers with encryption in transit (HTTPS enforced)
- Reading data is stored locally on your device first, then synced to the cloud
- We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
We may share data only in these limited circumstances:
- With third-party service providers listed above, solely to operate the App
- If required by law or legal process
- To protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the public
Your Rights and Choices
- Access and export your data by contacting us
- Delete your account and associated data by contacting us
- Control highlight visibility by marking highlights as public or private
- Use the App anonymously without creating an account (some features require sign-in)
- Opt out of analytics by disabling usage data sharing in your device settings
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy within the App or through other communication channels. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
