Philebus

Socrates argues with Philebus, the partisan of pleasure, and Protarchus, his more thoughtful proxy. The dialogue cuts through the false alternative of pure pleasure versus pure intellect and builds a hierarchy of goods, with measure and proportion at the top. Late Plato at his most analytical, and the clearest statement of his mature ethics.
