Translated by George Bühler
The Manusmriti (Manava-Dharmashastra) is one of the most important texts of ancient Indian law and society. Attributed to the mythical first man Manu, it covers the creation of the world, the duties of the four castes, rules for rites of passage, civil and criminal law, and the path to spiritual liberation. This translation by George Bühler was published in 1886 as Volume 25 of the Sacred Books of the East series edited by Max Müller.
