Topper Takes a Trip, published in 1932, is the sequel to Thorne Smith's beloved comic novel. Cosmo Topper, now separated from his disapproving wife, flees to the South of France for a quiet holiday. But Marion Kerby's ghost has other plans, and soon Topper is embroiled in a fresh series of supernatural escapades involving stolen cars, bewildered gendarmes, and the kind of behaviour that would scandalise even the Riviera. Smith's second Topper novel is looser and wilder than the first — a champagne-fuelled romp through the Jazz Age expatriate playground.
