An Autobiography

Nehru wrote this book in his ninth prison term, ‘to trace my own mental development’ — and produced something far larger: Harrow and Cambridge, the coming of Gandhi, Naini and Dehra Dun gaols, the death of his father, the death of Kamala foreshadowed in its dedication. Published in April 1936, it was an immediate sensation in England and India alike, and remains the most personal and searching account of the independence movement by any of its leaders. This Kafka edition presents the complete text with Nehru’s 1936 preface, his postscript, and the ‘Five Years Later’ chapter he added in 1942.
